Pro Tips
- •NPS is calculated as the percentage of promoters minus the percentage of detractors - passives don't count against or for the score
- •NPS ranges from -100 (every respondent is a detractor) to +100 (every respondent is a promoter)
- •Promoters (9-10) are enthusiastic customers likely to recommend you, detractors (0-6) are unhappy and may discourage others, and passives (7-8) are satisfied but unenthusiastic
- •NPS is most useful tracked over time or benchmarked against direct competitors, rather than viewed as an absolute standalone number

Frequently Asked Questions
What survey question generates these categories?
NPS is based on the question "How likely are you to recommend us to a friend or colleague?" rated on a 0-10 scale. Scores of 9-10 are promoters, 7-8 are passives, and 0-6 are detractors.
Why don't passives affect the score directly?
NPS is designed to highlight the balance between enthusiastic advocates and unhappy customers. Passives are satisfied but not enthusiastic, so they're excluded from the core calculation, though they still count toward the total response count used to calculate percentages.
What's considered a good NPS score?
This varies by industry, but generally, scores above 0 are considered acceptable, above 30 is good, above 50 is great, and above 70 is considered world-class.
Is my data sent to a server?
No. All calculations happen instantly in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing you enter is transmitted anywhere.
Can NPS be negative?
Yes. If you have more detractors than promoters, your NPS will be negative, down to a theoretical minimum of -100 if every respondent were a detractor.
