How accurate are the Pantone matches from images?
Accuracy depends on image quality and lighting. Matches with 90%+ match percentage (Delta E < 2) are excellent and suitable for brand specifications. 80-89% (Delta E 2-5) are good for most uses. Below 80% may require verification with physical Pantone swatch books. Always remember that screens cannot perfectly reproduce Pantone colors - final verification should use actual Pantone swatch books.
What is Delta E and why does it matter?
Delta E (ΔE) measures perceptual color difference in LAB color space, which matches human vision better than RGB. ΔE < 2 is imperceptible to most people. ΔE 2-5 is perceptible only to trained eyes. ΔE > 5 is clearly noticeable. We use CIE76 Delta E formula for matching because it provides intuitive results for Pantone color selection. Lower Delta E = closer match.

We show the top 3 Pantone matches for each extracted color to give you options. The top match has the lowest Delta E, but sometimes the 2nd or 3rd match may be more suitable for your specific needs (e.g., you might prefer Coated over Uncoated, or a different color family). Match percentages and Delta E values help you decide which Pantone color best fits your requirements.
