What is PCM format?

PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) is the standard uncompressed digital audio format used in WAV files, CDs, and most digital audio systems. It stores audio as discrete samples at regular intervals, unlike DSD's 1-bit stream.

Should I choose 16-bit or 24-bit?

24-bit provides greater dynamic range and is ideal for professional work, archiving, or further processing. 16-bit (CD quality) is sufficient for final listening copies and offers smaller file sizes. For DSD sources, 24-bit better preserves the original quality.

What sample rate is best?

48 kHz offers excellent quality and broad compatibility. 96 kHz preserves more of the original DSD high-frequency content and is recommended for archiving or professional use. 44.1 kHz provides CD-quality output with smaller files.

How large will the PCM files be?

PCM WAV files are uncompressed and quite large. A 3-minute song at 48 kHz/24-bit will be about 50 MB. At 96 kHz/24-bit, it doubles to ~100 MB. This is much larger than compressed formats but preserves full quality.

What's the difference between DSD-to-PCM and DSD-to-WAV?

They are essentially the same - PCM is the encoding method, and WAV is the container format. Both produce uncompressed WAV files with PCM audio data. The tools offer identical functionality with the same quality settings.
